Introduction

Rehabilitation counselling is a dynamic, challenging and rewarding allied health profession that is grounded in social justice, human rights, community inclusion and the value and importance of work.This course   prepares students for careers in a variety of counseling settings with the primary goal of acquiring and applying the specialized knowledge, skills, and values that will enable them to effectively assist and support individuals with disabilities throughout the rehabilitation process.

Objectives

·  practice the skills necessary to function as a  rehabilitation counsellor, and in relation to medical  rehabilitation and health counselling.

·  To demonstrate understanding of vocational rehabilitation from a workers compensation, motor vehicle and life insurance perspective.

·To practice skills in assessing clients for return to work and redeployment activities (assessments including initial needs, workplace safety, and vocational and transferable skills).

·  demonstrate an understanding of treatment and assessment issues related to illness and disability.
